Was watching Modern Marvels on the History Channel the other night about Pacific Coast Highway. Much of the emphasis was on the building of bridges on this route which runs from the Mexican border to Washington state. There were some truly inspirational stories of brilliance and determination. Many bridges were constructed over gorges to connect roads that were laid on man-made shelves carved into the sides of the coastal mountain ranges shooting up from the Pacific Ocean. There were some serious engineering achievements being made.

Bixby Bridge, Big Sur, California

Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco

Cape Creek Bridge, Oregon

This all made me think of the stunning images of the recently opened Millau Viaduct, the tallest bridge in the world, in southern France.

Any bridges in your neck to show?

Unfortunately, here's the only pic I could find of a bridge 'round my neck of the woods. Since the ice is now 2 foot thick, I usually walk my dog on the ice underneath this bridge every day.

This one isn't too far away though:

Very cool. Some awesome shots. I could even detect the bridge on the nose of the pup.

This is the Coronada Bridge in San Diego.

how did i nearly miss this thread - amasing shots like Hugh has already said....Golden Gate is amasing.....just reminds me of 'Dirty Harry' (a favourite of mine) - Brooklyn Bridge is also cool, look at those lines Laughing

here is one you'll all know :

Imagine being on a boat, at night, floating under that beast, whilst listening to FK play records....now, that was special, even as a Londoner who has seen that dam bridge 1001 times..!!

dear matt (d66) you obviously did not pass 'reality checkpoint' in your last post - 'go to jail + miss a turn' for forgetting the finest bridge in Romsey - so good I could not find a web image - obviously not yet 'gentrified'

:P

Well, we took the time to put up a whole thread explaining how to do it in the 'Site Help' section!!

If you do not have your own web space, you can upload the pictures to a free image hosting service, such as htp://www.tinypic.com or whichever you prefer, there are many to choose from...

Then you reference the URL of your hosted picture as explained in the thread mentioned above!

JB! Touche on that one, brother! Damn!

And to all, some really great shots!

So cool to see a litte interest in this bridge thing. From 1993 to 1997 I lived in the quaint New England town of Mystic, Conecticut, one block away from the historical draw bridge, a different breed of bridge altogether.

but did you know it........?

I have never seen it erect ever though......I think it only ever does when Navel ships or big ferries go down the Thames.

From my days in Las Vegas:

This is an area known as the Spaghetti Bowl because of it's legendary traffic delays.

I saw a Modern Marvels segment on the building of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, too. That is amazing stuff. Just mind blowing, really!!!

Painting by Monet, of a bridge situated 3 minutes from my office! This snap looks a little more bleak than I remember the painting to be thought...
